Final Production: Rationale

This year I have developed knowledge and skills in various aspects the music industry, such as my chosen instrument (guitar) through one on one-guitar lessons with my tutor. These lessons have always allowed me to gain further knowledge in music theory and have enhanced my song writing capabilities. The cover song analysis task evaluated the creation of three different cover tracks and lead to my own covers, which added my own taste and style into a song. I also found I learnt more about song structure which has helped me greatly in creating music outside of college. In The live lounge performance (LLP) and the health and safety project I learnt how to set up a gig and what is need to ensure a gig runs smoothly. Also from the LLP I received multiple accounts of feedback from my peers; the feedback mostly helped me gain understanding of what kind of playing style and type of guitar is appropriate for a specific song and/or genre. Finally through the electronic music performance I greatly developed knowledge of how to manipulate different guitar pedals to give me a tone I want in order to enhance the quality of a song. This has also helped me greatly outside of college to create and write songs.

Project Concept

My final project will be a blues rock EP. On this EP I plan to have four tracks with three of these being songs and the fourth being a live recorded performance of one of the songs. My inspiration behind the project is that I want to challenge my self and work with a genre I am yet to work with in order to open my musical mind to new concepts. I will be trying to base the sound of the album from artists and bands such as The Black Keys and The Rolling Stones. Although I have definitely decided to work on a blues rock EP I will also be looking for new ways to make the tracks sound unique from normal conventional blues rock techniques. I will be working with a drummer (Rhys Battle), bassist (Jaymie Porter) and vocalist (Alison Foyle) and I will play guitar on the EP. I have worked with the vocalist before on another indie EP. I have practiced and played with the drummer and bassist before but I am yet to start a more serious project with them.
